Artist Statement  l  Armen Kojoyian

As an organic abstract artist, my abstract image creation is deeply intertwined with the concept of morphic resonance, a phenomenon proposed by Rupert Sheldrake that suggests the existence of an ancient collective memory inherent in nature. Guided by an enduring fascination with cultural symbols and the organic artifacts of the natural world, I channel this affinity as the impetus behind my visual narratives. I actively unlock the innate energy of my forms and symbols into organic abstraction delivered by resonant channels of the subconscious.

My art-making process is in the moment and not premeditated with numerous sketching phases or concepting. I strive to be only a conduit for my imagery weaving my artwork between the vibrations of organic abstraction to abstract realism. Fluid intuition guides my instinctual understanding of the materials I work with and the forces that shape them. Embracing spontaneity and imperfection, allows my artwork to evolve organically with each application of pigment, line, or form.

The core intention of my final artworks is to evoke immediate recognition, only to have it deconstruct into ambiguity upon closer examination. Rooted in visual mystery, my abstract creations seem to emerge from a collective memory stretching across eons of human consciousness in a fluid symbolism. This prompts a contemplation: is it the subconscious or an elusive ancient memory that furnishes the elements for dismantling apparent meaning? Can the abstract artist serve as a visual shaman, unveiling a novel realm where natural and arcane forms intertwine in conflict and synergy and have the ability to vibrate higher then linguistic expression? I think so...
